Thiamine, or vitamin B1, seems to help energy mainly in people who are low in it or who have certain long-term illnesses, and results are mixed overall. In older women with mildly low thiamine, 10 mg a day for 6 weeks lowered fatigue and improved well-being and appetite compared with placebo [1]. This product gives 525 mg a day, far above that dose. In people with inflammatory bowel disease and severe fatigue, high doses of 600 to 1800 mg a day for 4 weeks cut fatigue clearly compared with placebo [2]. A small pilot without a placebo group reported similar relief [3]. Note that 525 mg is below the 600 mg starting point of those high-dose trials. Other studies found no benefit. The same high dose did no better than placebo in people with a liver disease and severe fatigue [4]. In bowel disease, 300 mg a day for 12 weeks did not change fatigue [5]. A large trial of sulbutiamine, a related compound rather than thiamine itself, found no lasting benefit for fatigue after an infection [6]. There is no clear evidence that thiamine boosts energy in healthy people who are not low in it. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

I couldn't retrieve actual customer reviews for Earthborn Elements Vitamin B1, so I can't give an honest summary of the themes in them. The only rating signal I found was a 4.6 on one international retailer page (Ubuy), with no review text to read. Other listings showed no reviews, or only promotional copy. To get real feedback, read the verified-purchase reviews on the product's Amazon page and filter for critical ones. Look for comments on capsule size, whether the label dose matches what you expect, and any effects on energy or stomach comfort.

RAL Summary

Members OnlyTier 4 for Energy

The tier of 5 says good studies show thiamine does not work, but the studies are evenly split (8 improved, 8 no effect), with two placebo-controlled trials showing less fatigue, so they disagree rather than show it fails. So it is graded Tier 4, as the studies disagree.

  • Emerging: not enough evidence to rank higher yet.

Where the evidence disagrees: 8 of the 17 human studies found no effect.

Body systems: Nervous system, Metabolic system, Digestive system

Combine with: Thiamine works best alongside other B vitamins such as B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 and folate in a B-complex, since they cooperate in energy metabolism. Magnesium is also a cofactor for thiamine-dependent enzymes, so it pairs well, and alpha-lipoic acid can complement thiamine for nerve and metabolic support. For the heartburn goal itself, consider a separate product with calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, or sodium alginate for fast relief, or DGL licorice and zinc-carnosine for longer-term mucosal support. Check with a healthcare provider if heartburn is frequent or persistent.

Possible side effects: High-dose thiamine at 600 to 1800 mg a day was reported as safe in a 4-week trial. No major side effects reported.
