GloryBee Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses Review
GloryBee's Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses is produced from pure, mature sugar cane. Unsulphured means the cane has been allowed to ripen naturally in the field, whereas sulphured molasses is made from young cane that requires the addition of sulphur dioxide to keep it fresh. The cane is harvested and crushed into a juice, which is then evaporated through a boiling process that promotes sugar crystallization. Molasses comes in several varieties depending on whether it is from the first, second or third boiling. Blackstrap is from the third boiling, when most of the sucrose from the original juice has been crystallized and removed. This makes blackstrap the darkest and thickest type, with the most robust, strong flavor, which is sometimes described as slightly bitter. Blackstrap molasses is known to contain a significant amount of micronutrients including calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese, and it is also a good source of potassium. The product has long been sold as a dietary supplement, and it is also used in baking and cooking to make gingerbread, cookies, BBQ sauce and marinades. The page lists these attributes: Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Kosher, and stored in an AIB Superior Rated Facility. The specifications listed are a dark brown syrup color, a Spindle Brix (1:1) of greater than or equal to 79.0, a pH (1:1) of 5.0 to 6.5, and an invert sugar content of 10.0 to 25.0%. GloryBee notes these figures are averages only and that lot-specific information can be requested through its sales department. For storage, the company recommends keeping the molasses in a cool, dry, humidity controlled environment. The industry standard shelf life is 24 months from date of manufacture when stored under recommended conditions. The product is offered in three sizes on this page: a 1 gallon pail (item 11077), a 58.1 pound container (item 11066), and a 3000 pound option (item 13964). At the time of capture, all three sizes are listed as out of stock, and no price is shown. Customers needing larger quantities are directed to request a quote. GloryBee describes itself as having worked for nearly 50 years with top beekeepers and ingredient suppliers across the globe to create a resilient supply chain of high quality honey and ingredients.
