Vitamin C is in this product at 1 gram a day, above the 500 milligrams that worked in studies. Many human studies suggest it helps blood vessels widen and improves blood flow, mainly in people whose vessels already work poorly. In 46 people with heart artery disease, 500 milligrams daily for 30 days improved arm artery widening compared with placebo [1]. In 30 adults with type 2 diabetes, 500 milligrams daily for 4 weeks lowered blood pressure and reduced artery stiffness [2]. In 21 obese children, 500 milligrams daily for 45 days restored forearm vessel widening during mental stress [3]. A single 2 gram dose improved vessel widening within 2 hours in people with poor starting function [4]. In heart procedure patients, vitamin C given by vein lowered a heart injury marker by about 43 percent, though that was not a pill [5]. Results are not uniform: a large review covering 6409 people found mixed results and no overall effect on artery stiffness [6]. Some month-long trials in people with high blood pressure found no benefit [PMID:11158948, PMID:15609886]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Biohacker Summary

Members Only0 of 10 recommend it
0 of 10 biohackers on our panel recommend it

Most of the panel recommends or uses vitamin C, and only a few were neutral or stopped one form of it. The most common reasons are collagen support for skin and joints, immune support, and skin health, with several advising taking it alongside collagen. Doses vary: one panelist takes an extra gram a day, another suggests about a gram split into smaller doses, one takes 250 milligrams, and one suggests 500 milligrams at the first sign of a cold. Forms mentioned include natural food sources, a liquid liposomal version, and topical serums, and one panelist stopped a serum only because of its smell. Cautions are that the best dose is unclear, that very high doses might blunt some of exercise's benefits, and that taking more than the normal range has not been shown to protect against cataracts.
