This gummy gives 3 mg of melatonin a night in a time release form. That is a full dose, since melatonin has worked in studies at doses as low as 0.1 mg. A large review of 22 trials in adults with insomnia found that slow release melatonin beat a dummy pill, but the gains were small: people fell asleep about 5 to 6 minutes faster and slept slightly more efficiently [1]. In adults 55 and older, slow release melatonin helped people fall asleep faster over six months, and the benefit held up over time [2]. In another trial of older adults, 2 mg nightly improved sleep quality and morning alertness in 26% of people, compared with 15% on the dummy pill [3]. A further trial in older adults found about half responded, more often those who made little melatonin of their own [4]. Younger adults with low melatonin levels did not benefit in one trial [2]. In children and teens, melatonin helped them fall asleep faster and sleep longer [5]. One review found a clear benefit in children but no significant benefit in adults [6]. Overall, the benefit for adults is real but modest. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Biohacker Summary

Members Only0 of 10 recommend it
0 of 10 biohackers on our panel recommend it

The panel is split on melatonin, the only ingredient here, with several using it and about as many urging caution. Most take it for sleep onset or jet lag, and a few cite fertility or recovery, with Bryan Johnson-style routines of 3 mg at night at one end and low doses of 0.3 to 1 mg favored by a few others, and one of them timing it three hours before bed. Several say a small dose works best, and one pairs it with blocking bright light, while another says it only starts sleep and will not keep you asleep. Cautions are common: some of the panel warn against long-term or nightly use, say many store products have doses that are too high, and flag grogginess, dependence, and concerns for children, including less REM sleep. One of them stopped pushing through bad sleep and now uses it only now and then, saying sparing use keeps it effective.
