Study, Trial or Testing Result Summary
Members Only143 human studies · 101 improved
1 of these 143 human studies gave the ingredient by injection, not by mouth.
This formula combines several joint ingredients at or above the doses used in studies. Boswellia, or Indian frankincense, has the strongest support: reviews of many trials found less knee pain and stiffness and better function in osteoarthritis [1][2], and one trial also found more cartilage on scans [3]. Curcumin eased pain and stiffness and improved function in pooled trials of knee osteoarthritis [4][5], though many trials were small [6]. Methylsulfonylmethane reduced pain in several trials [7][8], with benefits of unclear size [9]. Glucosamine sulfate results are mixed. One long trial slowed joint narrowing [10], but two-year trials in knees and hips found no benefit over placebo [11][12]. Bromelain is also mixed. It matched a common painkiller in one trial [13] but did no better than placebo in another [14]. Potassium is present only in a trace amount, far below the dose that eased pain in one small rheumatoid arthritis trial [15]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Customers mostly report a gradual, noticeable drop in joint stiffness and aching, especially in knees, with some noticing a change within a week or a month. Many reviewers are athletes, gym-goers or older adults with arthritis. Several say they can now jog or train without a knee brace. Others say they need less meds. One Walmart reviewer with polio-related muscle and joint pain said her arm and knee pain improved after about a month. A 74-year-old facing a hip replacement said his joints and bones looked excellent on a follow-up scan, and his orthopedist spoke well of Thorne. A recurring phrase on iHerb and Vitacost is that joints "feel less creaky" with consistent use. Trust in the brand is the second big theme. Buyers describe Thorne as high quality and rigorously verified. One said a personal trainer recommended Thorne because the label contents are verified. Others say they like the ingredient list, with glucosamine, MSM, curcumin and boswellia in one formula. Some praise Thorne's customer service and support. The complaints are more practical than medical. The main one is the number of capsules. A serving is four, and the full recommended dose is eight a day. Some find that burdensome, and some find the capsules a bit large. A tester quoted by Garage Gym Reviews rated swallowability 3.5 out of 5 and had to take one serving in two stages. One iHerb reviewer said they use this alongside bigger tablets to make dosing easier. Cost and ordering are another sore spot. One critical iHerb reviewer called it an expensive glucosamine product that did not meet expectations. Garage Gym Reviews describes the price as under $1 per serving, which is fairly affordable, but notes that orders on Thorne's own site default to a subscription. A smaller group saw no immediate effect or had mixed results. iHerb's summary of reviews says a few users noticed no quick benefit. Walmart has a handful of 2- and 3-star ratings, but no extended pattern of side effects stands out in the snippets I could read. Expert reviewers also flag the shellfish-derived glucosamine as an allergen, and they say customer reviews on Thorne's own site are limited. Overall, people say it works best with patience and consistent daily use. They are willing to swallow many capsules in exchange for relief and a brand they trust. Most of the pushback is about pill burden, price and results that vary from person to person.
Biohacker Summary
Members Only10 of 10 recommend it
Curcumin is the main ingredient, and nine of the ten panelists spoke about it, with most recommending or using it, mainly to lower inflammation and ease joint pain. Several also take it for brain health and mood, and one uses it to curb late night overeating. Two of them favor better absorbed forms, such as a phytosomal form or a nanoparticle form, and one pairs it with high dose omega-3 while another pairs it with sulforaphane. Several panelists were neutral, one said it should not replace sleep, food, and exercise, one advised against high dose use for general purposes unless a doctor guides it, and one said to avoid it during pregnancy. Potassium is a smaller ingredient in this product, and the panel mostly favors getting it from food or electrolyte drinks.}

Dr. Eric Berg · Curcumin · neutral
- Mentions that turmeric contains curcumin, which has been studied for its effects on inflammation, joint discomfort, mood, and blood sugar.
- States that people need more potassium than any other mineral, yet most people aren’t getting enough.
- Explains that potassium is essential for peristalsis, the pumping action through the colon, and without it, things can sit there, leading to constipation.
- Explains that the normal requirements for potassium are 4,700 mg every single day, and that very few people get half of that amount. They describe potassium's role in the sodium potassium pump, which is essential for cellular electricity, muscle contraction, and heart function. Deficiency can lead to tiredness, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, or rising blood pressure.
- Recommends increasing potassium to restore balance and support healthy blood pressure.
- States that potassium is the most important electrolyte and that most people are not getting enough of it, needing around 4,700 mg daily, or even more, to avoid issues like fatigue, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and fluid retention.
- Dr. Eric Berg states that potassium is essential for health, supporting healthy muscles, nerves, and heart function, but warns that getting too much, especially from supplements, can be dangerous.
- Dr. Eric Berg states that most people are getting nowhere near enough potassium to balance the amount of sodium they’re already eating, implying a recommendation for increased potassium intake.
- Explains that potassium relaxes blood vessels, keeps elasticity in arteries, lowers adrenaline, supports the sympathetic nervous system, protects the endothelial layer of arteries, increases nitric oxide, and keeps insulin receptors sensitive.
- Was very successful in practice using potassium for hypertension, noting that bodies need 4700 mg of potassium every single day.
- States that low potassium can lead to constipation because potassium controls the smooth muscles of the body, affecting the contraction and relaxation of muscles in the colon.
- Notes that Curcumin barely absorbs without black pepper.
- Recommends curcumin, stating it delivers powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects linked to cardiovascular health and mental well-being.
- Dr. Eric Berg states that curcumin may support blood sugar, but it should not be treated as an equivalent substitute for other treatments.

- Curcumin may be one of the most powerful naturally occurring dietary compounds for lowering age-related inflammation. The phytosomal form is preferred because standard curcumin is rapidly broken down by the liver, while phytosomal delivery makes it far more bioavailable.
- Asks if curcumin can slow aging.
- Curcumin may be one of the most effective natural compounds for lowering age-related inflammation. The phytosomal form matters because standard curcumin is poorly absorbed and rapidly metabolized, while phytosomal delivery makes it much more bioavailable.
- Recommends getting enough potassium, noting that most people get too much sodium and not enough potassium.

Body systems: Musculoskeletal system, Immune system
Combine with: For joint support, glucosamine and chondroitin pair well with MSM for connective tissue and comfort, hyaluronic acid or collagen type II (UC-II) for cartilage and lubrication, and omega-3 fish oil (EPA/DHA) and curcumin or boswellia for inflammation modulation. Vitamin D3 with K2 and calcium support the bone underlying the joint. If blood pressure is the actual goal, use separate evidence-based nutrients: magnesium (glycinate or citrate), potassium from food or approved supplements, CoQ10, omega-3s, and aged garlic extract. Check with a physician before combining supplements with antihypertensive drugs or meds. Note that glucosamine derived from shellfish may be a problem for people with shellfish allergy, and chondroitin may interact with meds such as a med.
Possible side effects: Studies of boswellia, curcumin and glucosamine found side effects no more common than with placebo. Reviewers mention large capsules and a high pill count, and the glucosamine comes from shellfish, which matters for people with shellfish allergy.
