This product gives 540 milligrams of silybin a day, above the 135 milligrams that worked in studies. No human study measured biological age directly, but many show better aging-related markers. In a six month trial of 60 people with type 2 diabetes and alcohol-related liver disease, 135 milligrams of silybin daily lowered blood sugar, blood fats and a marker of oxidative damage compared with placebo [1]. Most other studies used silymarin, the wider milk thistle extract that contains silybin, so they are less direct. A pooled analysis of 15 trials found it lowered two inflammation markers and a marker of fat damage from oxidation, but did not change overall antioxidant capacity [2]. A larger pooled analysis of 41 trials found raised glutathione, a natural antioxidant, but no clear overall drop in oxidative damage markers [3]. In type 2 diabetes, pooled trials found lower long-term blood sugar and oxidative damage, though the evidence was called too weak for firm conclusions [4]. Placebo-controlled trials using 420 milligrams a day lowered oxidative damage and inflammation and raised antioxidant defenses in people with a blood disorder and in people with diabetes [5][6]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.
