Thorne Research Vitamin D3 Liquid Review

Support foundational health with Thorne Vitamin D3, a high-quality supplement formulated to help maintain optimal vitamin D levels for overall wellness. Vitamin D is essential for many key functions in the body, yet many individuals may not get enough from sunlight or diet alone, especially those with limited sun exposure. Thorne's formula provides vitamin D3, the more potent and better absorbed form of vitamin D compared to D2, helping the body effectively raise and maintain healthy vitamin D levels. This supplement supports calcium absorption and retention, which is important for maintaining strong bones and teeth, while also promoting muscle strength, cardiovascular health, and immune function. Designed with a clean ingredient profile, Thorne Vitamin D3 contains no unnecessary additives such as lactose or preservatives. Benefits listed on the page: contains vitamin D3, a highly absorbable form of vitamin D; supports healthy bones, teeth, and muscle function; enhances calcium absorption and retention; provides immune support; gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and vegan. Warnings listed on the page: should not be used if you have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients; if you are pregnant or nursing, do not use this product. The label does not state how much vitamin D is in a serving; the amount is listed as hidden in a blend, so it cannot be compared with the doses studied. Study results for immune support are mixed. A 2019 pooled analysis of 25 trials with 11,321 people found vitamin D lowered the odds of a sudden respiratory infection by about 12 percent, mostly in very deficient people taking daily or weekly doses [1]. A 2021 update found a much smaller benefit, about 3 percent lower risk and slightly shorter symptoms [2]. Several large placebo-controlled trials found no benefit. In 15,804 older adults, 2,000 international units daily for one year did not lower upper respiratory infections [3]. In 8,851 schoolchildren, weekly vitamin D for three years did not reduce tuberculosis or respiratory infections [4]. In 2,157 adults aged 70 or older, three years of daily vitamin D did not lower infection rates [5]. In 408 adults with asthma, it did not reduce cold frequency or severity, and African American participants had more colds on vitamin D [6]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Buyers are very happy with Thorne's Vitamin D3 Liquid. Across the stores it carries about 10 ratings, and every review that gave stars rated it 4 or 5. **What buyers say it did for them:** Several people link it to better vitamin D status. One reviewer says it is a great way to "help that deficiency," and another says "My numbers have improved thanks to Thorne!" One reviewer reports faster, thicker hair and hard, quick-growing nails, and says her cardiologist recommended the drops. A parent says a doctor prescribed it for their son to strengthen his immune system. One buyer is "still waiting on results," so not everyone has noticed an effect yet. **What they complain about:** There is very little. The one practical issue is a slow drip. The reviewer who raised it suggests tucking the bottle under your arm for a few minutes to warm it up so the drops come out quickly. Nobody in the reviews or store summaries mentions side effects, and nobody complains about price or bottle size. **Taste, smell and form:** The liquid is described as "pretty much tasteless," and one buyer says it compares well with an earlier set of D drops that were "yucky." Buyers like the dropper and say it is "easy to use and measure!!!" The store summary also describes the liquid as easy to mix with food or drink. One person says it is "easy to swallow." Smell is not mentioned. **Value for money:** Only one reviewer speaks to this, calling it an "affordable, easy way" to address a deficiency. The store summary notes that nobody complains about the price. There is too little here to say more. **Who it suits and who it did not:** The liquid suits people who want to avoid pills. One reviewer says "I have a difficult time swallowing tablets and capsules," and another is glad for "no more huge pills!" It also appeals to buyers who already trust Thorne. Several say they like the brand, and some mention that their doctors recommend it. It has been used for a child on a doctor's advice. Nobody said it did not suit them. The one buyer still waiting on results shows that the benefits may not be obvious right away. **Other forms and versions:** Two reviews refer to the Vitamin D + K2 liquid, which is a related product. They are very positive, but they may not describe the plain D3 formula exactly. Reviews of other forms, such as gummies, capsules or powder, were left out. **Overall:** Reviewers like the dropper format, the neutral taste and the Thorne name. The only practical tip is to warm the bottle if the drops come out slowly. The ratings are few and all positive, so this is a small sample, but the signs for the liquid are consistently good.

Biohacker Summary

Members Only8 of 10 recommend it
8 of 10 biohackers on our panel recommend it

Vitamin D is the main ingredient here, and the panel is broadly supportive: all ten spoke about it, and most recommend it or take it themselves. People take it for immune health, brain and mood, bone and muscle health, general health and longevity, and several say to get blood levels tested and aim for a target range, with one saying most people are probably deficient and that supplementing only makes sense if you are. Doses mentioned run from 5000 units of D3 taken in the morning by several of them up to 10,000 units a day in winter or for bone health, and one panelist said the true need is closer to about 8,900 units. D3 is the form people name, often paired with K2 and magnesium, and one panelist advises taking it with dietary fat for better absorption rather than alone with other supplements in the morning. Two panelists take it mainly in fall and winter or because of limited sun, and none said they stopped taking it.

RAL Summary

Members OnlyTier 4 for Immune Health

The tier rests on 34,255 counted reviews, but the review summary describes only about 10 ratings and draws partly on the Vitamin D plus K2 liquid, so the count does not appear to belong to this product. Its reviews are set aside, so it is graded on its studies alone. Its studied ingredients are not at the doses that worked in studies, and reviews are not strong enough on their own.

  • Emerging: not enough evidence to rank higher yet.
  • Vitamin D: amount hidden in a blend

Where the evidence disagrees: 21 of the 52 human studies found no effect.

Body systems: Immune system, Respiratory system

Combine with: Vitamin D3 works best with vitamin K2 (as MK-7), which helps direct calcium into bone rather than soft tissues such as arteries, and with magnesium (glycinate or citrate), which is needed to activate vitamin D and also supports healthy glucose metabolism. Taking it with a meal containing fat improves absorption, even for liquid forms. For immune support, pair it with zinc, vitamin C, and possibly quercetin. If the real goal is blood sugar support, add targeted ingredients such as berberine, chromium picolinate, alpha-lipoic acid, or Ceylon cinnamon, and consider omega-3 fish oil for cardiovascular support. Consult a healthcare provider, especially if taking diabetes or meds.

Possible side effects: No major side effects reported. One asthma trial found African American participants had more colds on vitamin D.
