Vitargo S2 Natural Tropical Fruit Flavor Review
Vitargo S2 Natural Tropical Fruit Flavor is a powdered carbohydrate fuel and recovery supplement made by Genr8. Its main ingredient is Vitargo, a patented, high-molecular-weight carbohydrate. It is sold in tubs of about 25 servings, and a serving is roughly 70 g of carbohydrate (about 280 calories). It is aimed at endurance and strength athletes who want to refuel quickly and replenish muscle glycogen after hard training. This flavor is naturally flavored and sweetened. The unflavored version has no sweetness. The carbohydrate is a starch-derived, branched-chain glucose polymer with a very high molecular weight, in the hundreds of thousands of daltons. The mechanism rests on its osmolality. Simple sugars such as dextrose or maltodextrin dissolve into many small particles, which pull water into the gut and slow the stomach from emptying. Vitargo's large molecules produce very few dissolved particles, so the drink has low osmolality. The stomach empties it faster, which the manufacturer describes as more than twice as fast as ordinary sugars. This also tends to cause less bloating and gastric heaviness. Once the carbohydrate reaches the small intestine, it is broken down to glucose and absorbed. The brand says this delivers fuel to muscle and the rest of the body more than twice as fast, within about 10 minutes after exhaustive exercise. The glucose raises blood glucose and insulin. Insulin promotes GLUT4 translocation in muscle cells and activates glycogen synthase, so glucose is stored as glycogen. The manufacturer cites university research reporting glycogen resynthesis up to 168% higher than with a comparison carbohydrate. Independent studies have been less consistent, so treat the strongest claims with some caution. The marketing is the source of the figures above. In practice, people mix it with water and take it before, during or after exercise. It contains only carbohydrate, so it pairs with protein or amino acid supplements. Reviewers note that mixing it with protein powder may affect how it feels. Because it supplies concentrated carbohydrate, it suits people with high training volumes and short recovery windows, such as multiple sessions in a day. It is less suited to sedentary people or anyone restricting carbohydrate.

This product's only listed ingredient is an engineered starch, a carbohydrate described on the label as a homopolysaccharide, in an amount hidden in a blend. None of the studies given tested this starch. They tested other polysaccharides with different structures, sources and uses, so their results cannot be applied to this product. In 132 people with nervous exhaustion, a reishi mushroom polysaccharide for 8 weeks lowered fatigue more than placebo [1]. In 77 stressed women, yeast beta-glucan for 12 weeks raised mental and physical energy compared with placebo [2]. In 66 healthy adults, a Euglena algae beta-glucan food for 4 weeks lowered physical and mental fatigue compared with placebo [3]. In 200 healthy adults, Euglena for 8 weeks lowered cold-like symptoms, including fatigue [4]. Astragalus polysaccharide injections reduced fatigue in people with lung cancer on chemotherapy [5]. Oat beta-glucan drinks reduced reported exhaustion compared with the start of the study [6]. These are fiber-like or immune-active compounds, not a fast-digesting starch used as workout fuel. No study of this product or its starch was provided. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

The feedback I could find is limited. It comes mainly from Amazon listings (about 15 ratings, roughly 4.1 stars) and from a blog review by a strength and conditioning team, so the themes below are tentative. Customers who liked it mostly describe it as a dependable fuel for hard endurance sessions. One buyer took it before a 10K race after hearing an Olympic swimmer endorse it. The blog reviewers said they noticed a difference within a few days and were able to extend their strength and conditioning workouts. They liked that it is just carbohydrate, so it can be added to protein or amino acid products. People also commented on how little stomach heaviness it causes compared with ordinary sugary drinks, which matches the brand's claims about fast gastric emptying. A few reviewers said it was good value and that the company was good to deal with. The complaints are mostly about fulfilment and flavor rather than performance. One buyer ordered the 4 lb tropical fruit tub and received the unflavored, unsweetened version, even though the packaging and delivery were otherwise fine. This suggests the flavored and unflavored versions get mixed up, so it is worth checking the label. The lower ratings, which bring the average below 5 stars, are probably related to taste or product mix-ups, though the written detail is sparse. The blog reviewers also said that taking it with a protein powder may have interfered with the effect, so it is hard to know what the product alone did. Overall, buyers like the quick, light-feeling carbohydrate. They are less happy about order mix-ups and the lack of strong independent evidence beyond the manufacturer's claims.

RAL Summary
Members OnlyTier 4 for Energy
The ineffective grade rests on studies of mushroom, yeast, oat, algae and Astragalus polysaccharides, which mostly showed less fatigue, and none tested the engineered starch carbohydrate in this product, so there is no direct evidence either way. So it is graded Tier 4, as the studies disagree.
- Emerging: not enough evidence to rank higher yet.
Where the evidence disagrees: 3 of the 17 human studies found no effect.

Combine with: To support muscle building, pair Vitargo with whey or casein protein (or an essential amino acid/leucine blend) post-workout, since carbohydrate plus protein enhances the insulin response and amino acid uptake. Creatine monohydrate (3-5 g daily) improves strength, training volume, and lean mass, and its muscle uptake is aided by carbohydrate intake. Beta-alanine or citrulline malate can support endurance and pump during training. Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) help hydration and performance during long sessions. Vitamin D3, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids support general recovery, hormonal health, and inflammation control. Use the carbohydrate mainly around intense training, as it is less useful for sedentary individuals or those managing blood sugar.
Possible side effects: No major side effects reported. Informal reviews say it causes less stomach heaviness than ordinary sugary drinks.
