Ashwagandha is the main ingredient here, at 600 mg a day, which is well above the lowest dose that worked in studies. A review pooling 23 placebo-controlled trials with 1706 adults found it lowered the stress hormone cortisol compared with placebo [1]. A review of nine trials with 558 people found lower cortisol, stress and anxiety [2]. Another review of 488 people found cortisol fell, but stress scores did not change significantly [3]. In one trial, 141 stressed adults taking 600 mg a day for 8 weeks had lower cortisol, stress and anxiety than those on placebo [4]. In another, 130 stressed adults taking 300 mg a day for 90 days had lower stress and cortisol and better sleep [5]. Over 12 months in 191 adults, cortisol fell and no serious safety problems appeared [6]. Doses as low as 125 mg a day reduced stress. No trial has directly tested adrenal gland function. Reishi is included at 400 mg, far below the 5,400 mg a day that reduced fatigue in the best trial [7]. Reishi results are mixed: one trial found no change in urine stress hormones [8], and another found no benefit, with the higher dose worsening symptoms [9]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Biohacker Summary
Members Only0 of 10 recommend it
Most of the panel recommends or uses ashwagandha, with five recommending it, three staying neutral and one saying he uses it. The main reasons are lowering the stress hormone cortisol, better sleep, calmer mood and, for a few, supporting testosterone. Doses mentioned run from 250 mg a day up to 400 to 600 mg, the range two of them gave, and one panelist said studies run at least 6 weeks; some prefer standardized extracts, and several suggest taking it at night or late in the day. Cautions include cycling it, with one advising two weeks on and two weeks off and another suggesting breaks if you feel emotionally numb, plus one panelist calling the data weak and another saying it may not suit everyone, and one person stopped after it caused a mouth sore. Reishi is a smaller ingredient in this product, and the few who mentioned it spoke of it as a calming adaptogen mushroom that they use or recommend.
