Source Naturals Magnesium Chelate Complex 100 mg Review

Source Naturals Magnesium Chelate Complex is composed of magnesium complexed with amino acids from hydrolyzed vegetable protein, for easy assimilation and utilization. Magnesium is an essential mineral, playing a key role in over 300 enzymatic reactions in metabolism. It is involved in energy production and storage, the breakdown of fatty acids, protein synthesis, DNA metabolism, the relaxation of both voluntary and involuntary muscle tissue, neurotransmitter activity, and hormone regulation. Magnesium is stored primarily in the bones, and along with other minerals plays a role in bone metabolism. The page lists three benefit statements: supports energy production and storage; supports the breakdown of fatty acids, protein synthesis, DNA metabolism, the relaxation of both voluntary and involuntary muscle tissue, neurotransmitter activity, and hormone regulation; and supports bone metabolism. The product is filed under the Bone and Joint Health category. The form shown is a tablet, with a potency of 100 mg, and size options of 100 tablets or 250 tablets. Customers may choose one, two, or three bottles, with a save 5 percent or save 10 percent offer for multiples. A subscription option offers 15 percent savings with delivery every 30 or 90 days, with no commitment and cancel anytime. The suggested use is 1 tablet 1 to 4 times daily with meals. The key ingredients are listed as magnesium as magnesium amino acid complex and calcium as dibasic calcium phosphate. The page notes that if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you should consult your health care professional before using this product. It also says not to use the product if either tamper-evident seal is broken or missing, and to keep it out of the reach of children. The product contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, soy or wheat, and contains no sugar, preservatives, or artificial color, flavor or fragrance. The page explains that Source Naturals products are designed in-house and made under cGMP certification, with much of the manufacturing done at the company's facility in Scotts Valley, California, and with third-party manufacturers used under strict GMP guidelines. Products are described as available nationwide. The page says the company tests raw materials and finished products using methods including ICP-MS for heavy metals testing and testing for microbial contamination. Magnesium is the main ingredient. Each tablet has 100 milligrams, which reaches the studied amount at three tablets a day. In a large 2025 pooled analysis of 38 trials, about 365 milligrams a day for around 12 weeks lowered the top blood pressure number by about 2.8 points and the bottom number by about 2.1 points. The biggest drops were in people already on meds or low in magnesium, with no clear change in people with normal pressure [1]. A 2016 analysis of 34 trials found similar small drops [2]. A review of 49 trials found benefit in people with uncontrolled high blood pressure but not in those with controlled or normal pressure [3]. Small trials in adults with metabolic syndrome taking 400 milligrams a day also lowered pressure [4][5]. However, a 24 week trial in overweight adults taking 450 milligrams a day found no change [6]. The calcium here is only 65 milligrams, far below the roughly 1,000 milligrams or more used in studies, so its blood pressure findings, mostly in pregnancy, do not apply to this dose [7][8]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Across the stores, this magnesium chelate tablet carries about 8,122 ratings and is generally well liked. Buyers praise its quality, tolerability and value, and sleep and relaxation come up most often. Complaints are few and mostly concern the calcium content. **What buyers say it did for them:** Sleep and relaxation are the main benefit. One reviewer wrote, "I am more relax and sleep much better," after a month of use. The iHerb summary also mentions fewer leg cramps and better muscle relaxation, and one reviewer said their magnesium levels have stayed normal. Some reported help with Type 2 Diabetes symptoms, and some reported better focus in children when it was combined with other supplements. Buyers also call the chelated form well absorbed: "It is easily absorbed." **What they complain about:** Negatives are limited. A few iHerb users disliked the calcium content, since the tablets contain calcium phosphate. There were occasional reports of side effects, such as increased blood pressure at higher doses. One reviewer preferred capsules, though they added that the tablets "work really well, No digestive issues." The Vitacost page shows a few lower star ratings, but their text isn't displayed, so their concerns can't be identified. **Taste, smell, pill size and form:** Tablet size is described as convenient and easy to swallow. One reviewer said, "The size is also good." Because the tablets are swallowed whole, one reviewer noticed no taste. Reviews of other product forms were left out, and this summary covers the tablets only. **Value for money:** Price is described as a good bargain for the amount received. One buyer simply wrote, "I love it, price, quality." Customers also trust Source Naturals for consistency, and long-term users call the brand reliable. Delivery is often noted as quick and reliable. **Who it seems to suit, and who it did not:** It seems to suit people looking for a well-tolerated magnesium for sleep, relaxation and muscle support, and those who want a chelated form. Several reviewers reached for it because of the formulation: "The best magnesium chelate doctors suggest this." Another said, "I read the correct magnesium formula in the ingredients." Long-term brand loyalists also like it. It may suit less well anyone who wants to avoid added calcium, or anyone who strongly prefers capsules. In the iHerb questions section, a shopper was told this is not the same as calcium magnesium. Another was told it is not suitable for a 4-year-old child. One iHerb reviewer suggested taking 200 to 1000 mg at night before bed. That is one buyer's own practice, not guidance from this summary.

Biohacker Summary

Members Only7 of 10 recommend it
7 of 10 biohackers on our panel recommend it

Most of the panel recommends or uses magnesium, and sleep is the most common reason, with some also citing blood pressure, muscle function, bone health, stress and cognition. Forms vary: glycinate is named by two, and threonate is favored by four, three of whom take 400 mg before bed, while others use electrolyte drinks that contain magnesium. Other doses mentioned include 300 mg before bed, 400 to 500 mg a day as a general need, and one panelist who aims for about a gram of supplemental magnesium. Two panelists give cautions: one says the evidence that magnesium reliably improves sleep is not yet consistent, and both warn that labels can overstate the real amount of magnesium by listing the whole compound weight. Calcium is a smaller ingredient in this product, and two panelists mention it as a bone health mineral that works alongside magnesium.

RAL Summary

Members OnlyTier 2 for Blood Pressure

Pooled trials show magnesium at about 365 milligrams a day modestly lowers blood pressure, especially in people with high pressure or low magnesium, and the label dose reaches this at three tablets a day [1][2]. Over 9,000 reviews are 97 percent positive.

Take 3 servings a day (3 tablets) to match the dose that worked in the studies.

Where the evidence disagrees: 29 of the 79 human studies found no effect.

Body systems: Cardiovascular system, Muscular system, Nervous system

Combine with: Magnesium chelate supports healthy blood pressure by promoting vascular smooth muscle relaxation, regulating calcium and potassium balance, and supporting healthy endothelial function. It stacks well with potassium (from food or a modest supplement, with medical guidance), which works with magnesium to balance sodium and support vessel tone. CoQ10 (ubiquinol) supports cardiac energy production and has modest blood pressure benefits. Omega-3 fish oil (EPA/DHA) supports endothelial health and triglyceride balance. Taurine and L-arginine or citrulline may support nitric oxide production and vasodilation. Vitamin D3 with K2 supports calcium handling and arterial health, and hawthorn or garlic extract may offer additional cardiovascular support. Note that 100 mg per serving is a low dose, so total daily intake may need to be higher, typically 200-400 mg of elemental magnesium. People on meds, meds, or with kidney disease should consult a healthcare provider before combining supplements.

Possible side effects: The studies given report no side effects; reviews mention occasional reports of raised blood pressure at higher doses and some buyers disliking the added calcium.
