Study, Trial or Testing Result Summary
Members Only114 human studies · 61 improved
3 of these 114 human studies gave the ingredient by injection, not by mouth.
All three ingredients are at or above the doses used in studies. Chondroitin sulfate at 800 mg: in a 2-year trial of 300 people with knee arthritis, this dose stopped the joint narrowing seen on placebo, though symptoms did not change [1]. Pooled trials found less pain and better function, with results varying between studies and brands [2][3]. Large trials found no clear pain benefit [4][5]. Glucosamine at 1.5 g: pooled trials linked it to less pain and slower joint narrowing, though the estimates were uncertain and the pain relief small [6][7]. A 3-year trial in 319 women found it stopped joint narrowing [8], but 24-week and 2-year trials found no pain benefit from glucosamine alone [4][9]. Many of these studies used glucosamine sulfate, while this product uses the hydrochloride form. Methylsulfonylmethane at 750 mg: pooled trials ranked it high for pain and stiffness, though evidence quality was low [10][11]. Adding 500 mg to glucosamine and chondroitin for 12 weeks helped more than the pair alone [12]. Overall, benefits appear modest and mostly concern joint structure. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Biohacker Summary
Members Only0 of 10 recommend it
The panel is split on glucosamine, the main ingredient: two of ten recommend it for joint pain and cartilage, a few use it, and several stay neutral or doubtful. Those in favor cite joint comfort, recovery after exercise, and possible skin and gut benefits, and the forms named include glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine HCL (suggested up to a gram) and N-acetylglucosamine. Doubters say the evidence is weak or mixed, one calls these old knee supplements ineffective, and one would not make it a first, second or third choice, though one longtime user has taken it for decades and another found it eased his knee pain when he was younger. Chondroitin, also a main ingredient, got less attention: one panelist rates it the weakest of the joint options, another says it is not effective, while one recommends it for joints and another for kidney stone risk. One panelist advises avoiding glucosamine sulfate during pregnancy, and people have paired it with whey protein, glutamine and flaxseed oil in a recovery smoothie.

- States that glucosamine does actually improve joint pain, despite some thinking it's a scam supplement.
- Notes that glucosamine, often considered a gimmick for joint health, may also be beneficial for skin anti-aging due to its sulfur content supporting glutathione production and inhibiting MMPs.
- Explains that while there are no human studies on chondroitin for skin anti-aging, cell studies suggest it stimulates procollagen expression and promotes wound healing and skin regeneration.
- Notes that Glucosamine Sulfate is known for joint benefits, has anti-inflammatory effects, and even skin anti-aging effects, possibly through its sulfur content aiding glutathione synthesis, rating it as 'good' but not 'god tier'.
- States that Chondroitin has the least evidence for skin and joint health compared to MSM and glucosamine, placing it in the 'okay' tier.
- Would include glucosamine in an 'unlimited' supplement stack due to research for joint health and its association with lower heart disease and mortality, though it's not a top priority.

- Recommends glucosamine, stating it has joint benefits, is associated with reduced mortality and heart disease in humans, increases autophagy, and has shown longevity benefits in animal studies.
- Discusses Glucosamine as a popular supplement for joint health, often used for osteoarthritis, but notes that its role in longevity is not as prominent as other compounds.
- Places chondroitin sulfate in the 'okay tier', noting it is a sulfur compound mostly for joint health, but has the least evidence among joint supplements and for lifespan, despite some potential skin and joint benefits.
- Discusses Chondroitin as a supplement for joint health, often combined with glucosamine, but notes that its effectiveness for longevity is not well-established.
- Discusses MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) as a sulfur compound used for joint health and inflammation, but notes its direct impact on longevity is not a primary focus.
- Used to take glucosamine in the past but no longer does, as he has already tested most supplements.
- States that Glucosamine Sulfate is known for joint benefits, has anti-inflammatory effects, and skin anti-aging effects, possibly due to its sulfur content aiding glutathione synthesis. He places it in the 'good tier'.
