Thorne Research Basic Nutrients 2/Day non NSF CERTIFIED Review
Thorne Research Basic Nutrients 2/Day (the "non NSF Certified" listing, which is the same formula as the NSF-labeled version) is a comprehensive, once-or-twice-daily multivitamin and mineral in vegetarian capsules. The dose is two capsules a day. It is aimed at people who want foundational nutrition without taking the six or more pills many multivitamins require. Thorne positions it as a professional-grade, practitioner-channel product. The non-NSF listing is the same formula sold through retailers such as National Hardware/Health Connection (NHC) pages. Retailers describe it as covering heart, brain, nerve, immune, bone and skin health. They also say it uses highly absorbable forms of nutrients and avoids unnecessary additives. It is described as gluten-, dairy- and soy-free. Healthline notes that it contains nutrients such as vitamin A for vision. How it works: - **Fills gaps in the diet.** The capsules supply a broad set of vitamins and minerals at moderate doses. These support normal metabolic function and help prevent marginal deficiencies. They do not replace a balanced diet. - **Active, bioavailable forms.** Thorne's label is built around forms the body can use directly. These include methylated folate (5-MTHF) and methylcobalamin, which skip the enzymatic activation steps that some people, such as those with MTHFR variants, do inefficiently. They also include chelated minerals, such as magnesium and zinc bound to amino acids, and the active coenzyme forms of some B vitamins. I did not retrieve the full supplement-facts panel, so check the label for exact forms and amounts. - **Cofactor support.** B vitamins act as coenzymes in energy metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. Vitamins C and E and minerals such as zinc and selenium support antioxidant defenses and immune function. Vitamin D and K and minerals such as magnesium support bone and calcium handling. Mineral chelation is intended to improve uptake and reduce stomach upset. - **Split dosing.** Two capsules, usually one with each of two meals, give steadier nutrient levels. They also reduce the competition between minerals for absorption that can happen in a single large dose. Quality positioning: Thorne is known for third-party testing and for working with manufacturers and researchers. The "non NSF Certified" label means the batch is not carrying the NSF Certified for Sport mark. The ingredients and formula are otherwise equivalent. Typical use is 2 capsules daily with food, or as directed by a healthcare professional. People on meds, or who are pregnant or have a medical condition, should consult a clinician first. Multivitamins support nutritional adequacy. They are not intended to treat disease.

Study, Trial or Testing Result Summary
Members Only265 human studies · 109 improved
16 of these 265 human studies gave the ingredient by drip, injection or inhaler, not by mouth.
Several ingredients come at the doses used in studies, but the support for energy is mixed. Vitamin D at 2,000 units a day lowered fatigue in active men [1], and a large dose helped tired people who were low in it, with 72% improving versus 50% on placebo [2]. However, a trial of over 34,000 older women found no change in energy [3]. Vitamin C at 250 mg helped well-being and fatigue in young adults low in vitamin C [4], but a large six-year trial in people who were not low found no benefit [5]. Thiamin helped older women with a mild shortage [6]. Selenium eased tiredness most in people who ate little of it [7]. Vitamin B6 at the full two-capsule serving helped tiredness in women with premenstrual symptoms [8], though larger blend trials found no benefit [9]. Magnesium reduced fatigue in adults with metabolic conditions at 80 mg [10], but this product gives only 20 mg per serving, well below that dose. Vitamin A, boron, vitamin E, gamma tocopherol, calcium and lutein are also below the doses studied [11][12][13][14]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Buyers are mostly positive about this multivitamin, with several noticing better energy or wellbeing, though one person felt no change at all. **What buyers say it did for them:** Some describe a general lift. One says, "I'm noticing more energy and general feeling of well-being," and the same reviewer reports that their nails went "from brittle and splitting to thick, strong and shiny." Another writes, "Since I started my regiment.. I feel 💯. Better." An older buyer credits Thorne products overall for staying healthy: "64 and have good health since I've been taking Thorne products." That comment is about the brand as a whole, not just this product. **What they complain about:** Complaints are few. The only negative is from a buyer who was unsure it did anything: "not sure. Feel no differant." Nobody reports side effects, and one reviewer specifically says, "No problems with side effects." **Taste, smell, pill size or form:** The reviews say nothing about taste, smell, pill size or how easy the capsules are to swallow, so there is nothing here to go on. **Value for money:** Price and value are not mentioned in any of the reviews. **Who it seems to suit and who it did not:** It seems to suit people who want a daily multivitamin from a brand they already trust, and who are looking for steadier energy or general wellbeing. A long-time Thorne user in their sixties is among the satisfied buyers. It did not suit the reviewer who noticed no difference, which suggests that some people may not feel any effect. The reviews do not give enough detail on age, diet or health goals to say more about who benefits most. Overall, the feedback is short and brief, and it is mostly favorable. It offers little on practical details such as taste, size or cost.
Biohacker Summary
Members Only9 of 10 recommend it
Magnesium is the main ingredient here, and all ten panelists spoke about it, with four saying they use it and one more recommending it. Sleep is the most common reason, and the forms named were glycinate before bed and threonate, with one panelist taking 400 mg of threonate at bedtime. Others take it for stress resilience, muscle recovery, workout performance, calming hunger when breaking a fast, and blood pressure, where a review of trials found modest drops at a median of 368 mg a day. One panelist said it does not fix waking up during the night, one warned that some labels make the dose look larger than it is, and one noted that most of the body's magnesium sits inside cells, so a standard blood test can miss a shortfall. Vitamin D was the smaller ingredient in this product that came up most, and a few panelists also mentioned zinc, vitamin C and others.

Some ingredients at studied doses, such as vitamin D and vitamin C, eased fatigue mainly in people who were low in them, while large trials in people who were not low found no benefit [2][5]. With only 10 reviews, there are too few to rank it higher.
Take 4 servings a day (8 capsules) to match the dose that worked in the studies.
- Emerging: not enough evidence to rank higher yet.
Where the evidence disagrees: 121 of the 265 human studies found no effect.

Body systems: Nervous system, Muscular system, Immune system, Metabolic system
Combine with: To better target mood and emotional balance, stack this multivitamin with a high-EPA fish oil (about 1-2 g combined EPA/DHA daily), which has the strongest evidence for supporting mood. Additional vitamin D3 (if blood levels are low) and magnesium glycinate or threonate can support serotonin signaling and nervous system balance. Consider saffron extract (about 30 mg/day), L-methylfolate or methylcobalamin if folate or B12 status is a concern, and an adaptogen like ashwagandha or rhodiola for stress-related mood dips. Probiotics may support the gut-brain axis. Avoid 5-HTP, SAMe, or St. John's wort if taking meds or other serotonergic medications, and consult a healthcare provider first.
Possible side effects: No major side effects reported. One review notes no problems with side effects, and a review of niacin studies lists flushing, stomach upset and fatigue, mainly at doses much higher than this product gives.
