This shake contains several nutrients at doses that worked in mood studies. Vitamin C helped mood mainly in people with low vitamin C or mild depression [1][2]. Vitamin D modestly eased low mood, mostly in people already depressed, but did not prevent depression in healthy older adults [3][4]. Magnesium lowered depression scores more than placebo in pooled trials [5]. Zinc and folate added to meds eased symptoms more than the medicine alone [6]. Selenium lowered depression scores in pooled trials [7]. Curcumin in the Meriva form improved depression in several trials [8][9]. Thiamine improved well-being in older women with low thiamine [10]. Vitamin A reaches a studied dose at two servings and helped in some trials but not others [11][12]. Several studied ingredients are well below the studied dose here, including vitamin E [13], riboflavin [14], taurine [15], lutein [16], green tea extract [17] and betaine [18]. Vitamin B12 and niacin did not help mood in trials [19][20]. Animal and cell studies are never counted.

Biohacker Summary

Members Only9 of 10 recommend it
9 of 10 biohackers on our panel recommend it

Vitamin D is the ingredient the panel talks about most, and nearly all of them recommend or use it, with only one passing on it in a neutral way. Panelists take it for general health, immune support, brain and muscle function, and healing, and several suggest getting blood levels tested and aiming for a target range. Doses mentioned run from 5000 units a day to at least 10,000 units in winter, and two say to take it with dietary fat for better absorption, not in the morning with other supplements. Magnesium comes next, with most of the panel using it for sleep and recovery, glycinate and threonate forms named, one dose of 400 mg before bed, and one panelist warning that labels can make the dose look larger than it is. Zinc gets support from a few for prostate and gut health, vitamin C is paired with collagen, and glycine is a smaller ingredient in this product that a few take before bed for sleep.
